A post about swimming

Swimming is either something triathletes excel at or something they manage their way through in order to get to the bike and run sections of the course. If you come from a swimming background you will typically fall into the former bucket of excelling at the sport, whereas with a lot of people swimming is something they learn as they get older and into triathlon. We have a mix of both types of people at the club with many ex-swim team members who are smashing the hundreds out at sub 1.25 pace and many others who learned to swim much later and are at a much more leisurely pace of 2.40. Indeed, our very own co-chair of the club Chris did not learn to swim until he started attending the club as a member back in 2018 and with the encouragement and help of the club managed to learn and then compete in his first middle distance tri in 2021. We have countless other stories of people who couldn’t swim fully and have gone from not managing 50 metres up to entering their first big triathlons. This goes show the support the club has for all types of swimmers and abilities.

We have exclusive access to Fleetwood pool on a Thursday night where the club get to train together, the session is typically changed up every week so we have a focus on technique work through drills, endurance work and speed, all depending on where we are in the season. During the summer months we also tend to add in swim-run sessions, coming out of the pool after a 300 metre swim and then a run around Fleetwood YMCA. I believe the current record is 6 times around! One thing is for sure, our swim session is renowned in the area for being so good in large part to our head coach Dom who plans and delivers all of our sessions. He is an excellent coach and really puts lots of focus in to the sessions and supporting all who attend.

The club is looking to partner with the YMCA more and get more pool access, becoming a member of the club and joining us means we are more likely to make this happen!

Please reach out to us via the contact form or email info@wytri.club for more information on any of the swimming sessions we have.

Thanks!
